3VR DIRECTOR CHAIRS SIA GROUP TO DEVELOP INDUSTRY STANDARD FOR VIDEO ANALYTICS, BOLSTER EXISTING OSIP DVI STANDARD

Industry Leaders Form Committee to Define and Draft a New Industry-Wide Standard for Video Analytics in Surveillance

San Francisco, CA – June 08, 20093VR Security, Inc, the searchable surveillance leader, today announced that Director of Engineering Tom Faulhaber is chairing a newly formed digital video working group to develop a new industry standard for video analytics in surveillance security systems. The working group, formed by the Security Industry Association, the leading trade group for businesses in the electronic physical security market, will work to define and draft a video analytic standard to augment SIA’s existing ANSI DVI (Digital Video Interface) standard for communications and data exchange between smart cameras, DVRs and other security components (ANSI/SIA OSIPS – DVI-01: 2008).

As chair of the committee, Faulhaber will work with industry leaders from companies including Cisco Systems, Salient Systems, VideoIQ, Cernium, Pelco, Honeywell and ObjectVideo to establish a standard data format for video analytics technologies used in both physical security systems and DVRs. The group aims to provide vendors, security professionals and businesses with a consistent industry standard to drive further innovation and application of video analytics in security systems.

"It’s an honor to be involved with such an important standards committee at a time when the industry is rapidly evolving toward increasingly digital, connected and IP-based security systems,” said Tom Faulhaber, director of engineering at 3VR. “As technologies progress and mature, standards become essential, and the fact that we are creating an industry-wide standard for video analytics is a clear sign of the technology’s maturation in the physical security market. As a leader in video analytics and innovator of the industry’s first searchable surveillance platform, 3VR is committed to developing open standards that drive innovation and allow for massive, widespread adoption of analytics-based solutions.”

In 2008, the SIA’s Standards Committee created the OSIPS Framework standard for security devices. Also in 2008, a subcommittee of the same group published the DVI standard focused on digital video, which defines an interface for the control of live and recorded video as well as camera control. It provides for the reporting of events and status, including position, direction, speed and other complex video events. In conjunction with the SIA, 3VR’s Faulhaber is now working to extend this initial standard to include definitions and data standards for the full range of video analytics.

"We appreciate Tom’s commitment to standards and his willingness to chair this subcommittee,” said Per Hanssen, chair of SIA Standards’ Component Subcommittee and president of Salient Systems. "3VR is a pioneer in advanced video analytics for physical security and surveillance and thus Tom’s contribution to this subcommittee is quite valuable. As the industry continues to mature and evolve, this standard will provide the critical framework for further advancements and applications of video analytics in physical security systems.”
